In 2006, Andrew Kassoy, Bart Houlahan and Coen Gilbert, three ex Stanford students and friends from more than 20 years, had an idea: founding a companies’ movement which used the force of business to positively impact the society. B Lab was therefore born, a no-profit organization which supported the development of a business community (the Certified B Corp) doing something for environmental and social sustainability. One of its aims was favouring a legislation process which recognized the legal status of Benefit Corporation and a standards-based organization called GIIRS (Global Impact Investing Rating System), in order to address important resources towards “impact” investments, for those companies strategically oriented to a common good creation.
The movement, born in USA, has seen a continuous growth over time. Today the states which legally recognize the Benefit Corporation have reached the number of 30 in USA with Washington D.C. However, the Benefit Corporations has ovetaken the american boundaries reaching a great success across the 5 continents!
To date, the Certified BCorp are more than 2000, in 50 countries and 130 sectors.
Among these companis, Perlage is included attaining the certification in december 2016 and becoming one of the 50 first italian BCorps. Italy is the first European country to have passed a Law (Law n° 208/2015) which recognized the legal status “Società Benefit“.
The founding principles of BCorp were our principles for a long time. Topics like environmental sustainability, ethics and accountability towards the employees and the community are included in our mission. The BCorp is not merely a certification but it’s a way of working and thinking which pushes the company in setting ambitious objectives in social and environmental fields. The time is ripe: a company must produce a benefit for the territory and people, not depleting resources and tending only to profit. This is the change we support since 1985 when we believed in the Organic Wine, healthier and environmentally-friendly.
To get and mantain the certification Perlage has to be evaluated on 4 areas:
We’ve produced certified organic wines since 1985, respecting the soil, biodiversity and the health of the local community. We would are keen to promote the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, nominated for Unesco World Heritage status.
Perlage promotes healthy and safe working conditions, allows flexible working hours and the board of directors is open to workers’ feedback. Perlage champions young people both through its employment practices and by welcoming student internships.
We have strong relationships with local grape and dry goods suppliers. We often organise cultural events and training meetings which are open to the public, and we support other companies by drawing on our expertise and disseminating information about organic wine production.
Perlage aims to be transparent, publically sharing our social and environmental goals and achievements, and we have procedures for customer feedback.
