The canopy of the rows must be managed, the shoots thinned and combed upward to bring light and healthiness to the clusters. It is a meticulous job of observation and experience that directly affects the quality of the grapes and wines.

To preside over this activity, Perlage and Azienda Agricola 7 Nardi have chosen a different path: to build a job opportunity capable of adapting to people’s needs and, at the same time, to help counter phenomena still present in the agricultural world, such as caporalato and illegal labor.

Many women in the area possess skills, energy and a desire to get involved, but often find it difficult to reconcile family commitments with traditional farm work schedules. From this awareness, the first group of Row Embroiderers was born.

With the support of the agronomy firm Extenda Vitis, we trained the first participants, who began working alongside our teams in the vineyards. The first pioneers of the project were Hakima, Fathima and Bouchra: three women who chose to get involved, acquire new skills and gain economic independence through skilled, regular and decent work.

The name of the project recalls the art of embroidery. Because, just as with needle and thread, patience, precision, sensitivity and attention to detail are needed between the rows. Gesture after gesture builds a harmonious result, capable of generating value over time.

The enthusiasm of the first Embroiderers confirmed to us that the path taken is the right one. Today the project is evolving and involves a group of companies in the area that are working on establishing a network contract, with the aim of expanding employment opportunities, sharing skills and creating a concrete model of inclusion and ethical work.

We are also particularly proud that Embroiderers of Rows is among the first projects published on the Venexus platform, which was created to foster collaborations capable of generating shared value between businesses and public administrations.

Perlage has always believed that sustainability is not only about what we produce, but also about how we build relationships, opportunities and the future.

We are in the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene where rows of vines draw the steep slopes that have made this landscape a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
