The Province of Treviso is an area full of wonderful places to visit, such as the many nature reserves little known to mass tourism in which to relax and regenerate. These areas are important both from a naturalistic and historical point of view. Let’s discover them together!
THE MOLINETTO DELLA CRODA
Built in 1630, the Molinetto della Croda is an old water mill located in Refrontolo, in the valley of the Lierza River, the Soligo’s main tributary. After years of neglect, today it is finally operational again. The municipality, in fact, has restored the entire complex, including the wooden wheel with all the gears and the millstone inside, making it a visitable museum that tells the story, the culture of milling and the life of the millers.
OASIS CERVARA
The Cervara Mill Nature Oasis is a small nature reserve included in the Sile Regional Park.
This environment is home to species of marsh plants, freshwater birds and reptiles, and also a botanical garden. In addition to nature, the Oasis is home to a recently restored and functioning 14th-century mill. In the hunting “cason” you can, on the other hand, observe local wildlife and go birdwatching.
THE ISLAND OF THE DEAD
The Island of the Dead is a small strip of land on the Piave River in the municipality of Moriago della Battaglia. This nature area was so named because, during World War I, it was a contested area as it was located in the center of the Piave front and the scene of fighting that resulted in a large number of casualties. Next to the little church of Our Lady of the Piave stands a memorial to the fallen soldiers built with stones from the river. On the top of this, barbed wire draws a cross intertwining with a helmet, while on the sides are lines from the poem “La Sernaglia” by the famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio.
OASIS OF THE WHITE FOUNTAINS
The White Fountains Oasis is located in Fontigo and is a nature reserve in the Quartier del Piave where groundwater emerges to the surface gushing all year round.
It is the ideal place to immerse yourself in nature, accompanied by the chirping of birds. Within the nature trail of the White Fountains Oasis with a few small detours, you can admire suggestive corners such as the Observatory and the Volpere Peninsula.
OASI SAN DANIELE
The San Daniele Oasis Nature Park is located in the northernmost part of the municipality of San Zenone degli Ezzelini. This environment is rich in biodiversity, a small park that forms a passageway and communication route between the Brenta River and the Piave River; an articulated and complex system of freshwater streams at the foot of Mount Grappa.
CENTRO CICOGNE SILEA
The center is located in Silea in the hamlet of Sant’Elena. Established in 1994, it continues its activities thanks to the volunteers of L.I.P.U. The main purpose of the center is the reintroduction of the white stork. Indeed, here it is possible to observe the elegant bird with black and white plumage, both in acclimatization aviaries and in complete freedom.
