Vegan aperitif? A tasty and environmentally friendly choice

2 min read

Think that organizing a vegan appetizer is complicated, in fact almost impossible? Know that it is not. There are many tasty recipes, great to enjoy especially in the summer time…that combined with cocktails made with our vegan and organic sparkling wines will make your vegan aperitif a success!

We propose two refreshing cocktails that are easy to make at home:
Pink Cocktail with Afra Prosecco DOC Rosé (recipe for 1 cocktail)

  • Afra Prosecco DOC Rosé (90ml)
  • Vodka (30ml)
  • Grapefruit juice (30ml)

Light and fruity, great for sipping during a summer aperitif.

White spritz (recipe for 1 cocktail)

  • White Perlapp (60ml)
  • White vermouth (40ml)
  • Soda to taste.
  • 2 lime slices
  • 4 mint leaves

Spritz in all its variations is the typical Veneto aperitif par excellence, simple to prepare and also perfect as a vegan cocktail. In fact, vegan friendly brands of products such as vodka, vermouth or gin can also be found on the market.

What vegan finger foods can be paired?

Some winning choices for your vegan appetizer might be: grain salad and eggless omelet with herbs and wildflowers.

For the former, all you need to do is prepare cold salads made from grains such as spelt, quinoa, barley, bulgur, etc. And dress it up with raw or pan seared seasonal vegetables.

As for the omelet instead: mix some water with chickpea flour (200gr) and extra virgin olive oil, add salt and pepper and let it sit for about ten minutes (the mixture must be liquid). Fry a spring onion with 200gr summer herbs or wildflowers (our choice is dandelion) and then add the latter two to the batter. You’ll then just need to cook the whole thing in a pan just as you would an omelet and at the end of cooking cut everything into chunks for an easy-to-share dish, great for an appetizer with friends.

Consuming organic food and following a diet with lots of fruits and vegetables is synonymous with well-being, but not only that. Being “green” and having an eco-sustainable lifestyle is a winning choice, because it is environmentally friendly and respectful to the society in which we live; moreover, it helps preserve planet Earth for future generations.

Sulfites: what they are and why they are used in wine

Sulfites, natural or added, serve to preserve wine from oxidation and mold. Organic wines use them to a small extent and some, like natural wines, contain none at all. Perlage revolutionized the industry by creating in 2008 the first Prosecco DOCG without added sulfites, Animae, followed in 2016 by Animae Cabernet Veneto IGT. The Animae range celebrates authenticity, purity and respect for the environment.

World Vegan Day, celebrated on November 1, emphasizes the importance of sustainable nutrition in wine as well. Not all wines are vegan: to be so, they must exclude animal products at all stages, from cultivation to clarification in the cellar. Perlage began producing vegan wines in 2012 with Sgàjo Prosecco DOC Extra Dry and since 2016 all production has been organic and vegan, combining sustainability and innovation.
