Together toward a plastic-free vineyard
Three years ago we chose to look beyond traditional practices and initiate a change: to reduce the use of plastic in vineyards and adopt more sustainable solutions. Today, with great satisfaction, we recount an important milestone: the second phase of the “Vineyard Plastic Free” project is a reality .
Plastic has long been present in the vineyard, from cover sheets to grape supports. Useful, sure, but also harmful to the environment. Recent studies show that even small amounts of plastic in the soil can disrupt the natural balance, slowing plant growth and putting soil life at risk.
With the support of student professors from ISSIS Cerletti in Conegliano , No Plastic Girls , Legambiemente, Legambiente and Sabiomaterials , we have been experimenting with new compostable materials and achieved concrete results. In the vineyards of Farra di Soligo, plastic harvested was already lower than average, but in our biodynamic vineyard-where COL DI MANZA Prosecco Superiore DOCG extra dry Millesimato was born-we achieved a 92.7 percent reduction.
We have chosen biodegradable ties and low-impact techniques, because we believe in an ecological viticulture, respectful of the earth and the future.
As Ivo Nardi says:
“Change is not only in the materials, but in the look with which we cultivate tomorrow.”
Our commitment continues, step by step, towards an increasingly sustainable vineyard. Because cultivating well also means taking care of the world that hosts us.
