Carbon sequestration and soil regeneration
The trial is based on the integration of certified organic compost and biochar, a soil conditioner obtained by pyrolysis, which is now allowed in organic farming. Biochar allows carbon to be immobilized in the soil for long periods and, at the same time, improves soil structure, water retention and fertility.
The pilot project is initiated in the Riva Moretta vineyard (1.59 hectares), located in the UNESCO Core Zone. Here, targeted row distribution methods are being tested, with the goal of increasing soil carbon content annually according to the “4 per thousand” principle, monitoring agronomic and climatic effects over time.
This trial represents a first step: a technical, open and evolving project designed to combine soil regeneration, climate mitigation and shared knowledge, with the ambition of contributing to change in the wine sector starting from the field.
